Bridge on implants — types, procedure and advantages

Traditional prosthetic bridges require healthy neighboring teeth on which they rest. However, bridges on implants use dental implants that are permanently embedded in the patient's jaw or lower jaw. Implants play the role of the roots of the teeth, providing a stable and secure base for the prosthetic bridge. One of the most important aspects of bridges on implants is their natural appearance. The materials used for the manufacture of these prostheses, such as ceramics or porcelain, are well tolerated by the body and give a very realistic effect. Thanks to this, the patient can enjoy a beautiful smile that looks and functions like natural teeth.

Who is the bridge on implants for?

Implant bridges are suitable for people who have lost one or several teeth and are looking for a permanent and aesthetic solution. They are especially recommended for:

  • People with lost teeth — as a result of injury, caries or other medical conditions. Dental implants provide a permanent basis for prosthetic bridges, allowing the restoration of full functionality.
  • People who wear removable dentures — who often face problems of stability and comfort. Implant bridges eliminate the need for loose dentures, increasing comfort and confidence when eating, talking, and doing daily activities.
  • People with weakened neighboring teeth When adjacent teeth are weakened by cavities or gum disease, an implant bridge is a better alternative than traditional bridges that require support on healthy teeth. Implants provide independent fixation and minimize the load on adjacent teeth.
  • People who want an aesthetic smile — bridges on implants made of high-quality materials perfectly imitate the natural appearance of teeth, which is important for people who value aesthetics and self-confidence.

Each patient is different, so before making a decision, it is worth consulting with an experienced dentist who will assess individual needs and capabilities and conduct a thorough examination and treatment plan.

Types of prosthetic bridges

Prosthetic bridges are a popular solution for restoring lost teeth that restore aesthetics and chewing and speech function. Among the most commonly used types are:

  • Porcelain bridges on rhinestones
Zirconia (zirconium oxide) is a ceramic material with excellent aesthetic and strength characteristics. Bridges on zircons perfectly imitate the natural structure of the tooth, are biocompatible, hypoallergenic and resistant to discoloration and corrosion. Their production requires precise planning and advanced CAD/CAM technologies.
  • Porcelain bridges on ceramics
Ceramics, including porcelain, are characterized by high aesthetics, durability and biocompatibility. Ceramic bridges faithfully reproduce the natural shape, color and transparency of teeth. They are resistant to abrasion, discoloration and corrosion, and their smooth surface makes it easy to maintain hygiene.
  • All-ceramic bridges
Made entirely of ceramic, they combine excellent aesthetics, durability and biocompatibility. They are difficult to distinguish from natural teeth, resistant to cracks, corrosion and discoloration. Ceramics are hypoallergenic and do not cause irritation to the gums.
  • Nickel-Free Mixed Bridges
They combine the advantages of bridges on implants and traditional prosthetic bridges. They consist of implants as permanent bases and ceramic or porcelain crowns mounted on the implants. They do not require the reduction of healthy neighboring teeth, which protects their structure and health.

The procedure for installing a bridge on implants

The process of installing a bridge on implants includes several stages:

  1. Evaluation of the patient — a detailed examination of the oral cavity, health assessment and radiological examinations (e.g. computed tomography) allow for accurate treatment planning.
  2. Preparation — treatment of possible cavities or other problems of adjacent teeth, if necessary.
  3. Implantation of implants — performed under local anesthesia. Titanium implants are inserted into the jaw bone or lower jaw.
  4. The healing process — lasts from several weeks to several months, during which the implants integrate into the bone (osseointegration).
  5. Installation of abutments and extraction of impression — abutments connect the implants to the bridge, and the impression is used to make a bridge in the laboratory.
  6. Construction and adjustment of the bridge — the bridge is manufactured using CAD/CAM technology, then adjusted and permanently fixed on the abutments.
  7. Inspections and maintenance Regular check-ups and proper oral hygiene are essential for longevity and health.

Advantages of bridges on implants

  • Stability and durability — the implants are permanently embedded in the bone, which ensures a solid base and comfort of use.
  • Natural look — materials such as ceramics or zirconia perfectly imitate natural teeth.
  • Protecting Neighboring Teeth — no need to grind healthy teeth, which allows them to maintain their integrity.
  • Restoration of chewing and speech function — patients can freely eat and talk without worrying about the stability of the dentures.
  • Longevity — implants made of titanium are resistant to corrosion and can last for many years with proper care.
  • Prevention of bone loss — Implants stimulate bone, preventing it from falling out after tooth loss.
